Over the past two weeks, we have looked at Jesus’ warnings about what will happen to us and others if we do not put our pride to death: we will experience the death of the soul in hell. And by death Jesus does not mean the cessation of the soul or the loss of consciousness, but the eternal conscious torments of hell-fire. Today we will look at the rest of the passage, which focuses on why people experience the death of the soul and how we can avoid it.
