Stability in the Midst of Change
Romans 3:27-31
Verse 27 asks, “Where, then, is boasting?” Verse 29 asks, “Is God the God of Jews only?” And v. 31 asks, “Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith?” What about our security in the law? What about our identity as God’s people? What about the integrity of God’s law and purposes? How do we make sense of the changes caused by Christ’s work?
In our passage today, Paul answers those questions like a pastor. On the one hand, he is up front about the nature of Christ’s work and how it changes our thinking about God and his ways. And on the other hand, Paul shows how these changes actually accomplish what God was planning all along. The changes, which seem so new, are in line with ancient truths that God revealed long ago. So, let’s walk through this passage together and see how God both grounds us and changes us by his truth. In this passage, we have stability in the midst of change.
