Do You Know Your Own Condition, Part 2
Last week, we examined the Pharisees’ practice of ceremonial handwashing, and observed that in their attempt to keep the law, and in their attempt to keep the law from being broken, they developed a series of extra-biblical requirements, requirements that had the effect of producing pride in those who kept them, and blindness to their own need of God’s justifying grace. Today I want to continue to probe the question, Do you know your true condition, by asking this question: Are you using religion to cover up disobedience? Let’s look at vv. 6–13 to answer this question.
