Genesis 17:1-14

Baptism is a pledge, a promise, a sign, a symbol, that God has given to his church to remind us of his promises, and even more than that, to pledge something to us. It’s a symbol of what God is doing in his church, and it’s a symbol of what God is doing in his world. And because of that, then not only is it saying something to us, but it is also summoning us to something. It is calling us to something.
