Matthew 13:53-58

As we come to chapters 14–18, we see that division continuing to intensify. The hostility to Jesus will only grow as he journeys closer to Jerusalem (cf. 16:21). But amidst this “progressive polarization, “we will also see those who confess Jesus as “the Messiah, the Son[1] of the living God” (16:16), and recognize in him the identity of Israel’s God, come to save his people from their sins (1:21). Let’s overview these chapters, then, and watch as the divide intensifies.
