Romans 8:28-39

With this conclusion, Paul not only brings Rom 8 to a close, but he concludes the whole section of Rom 5–8, which began with Paul promising us that “God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit” (5:5), and that, “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (5:8). With all that Paul has said about the mechanics of salvation in Romans (which are wonderful), he reminds us that this whole program has been driven by the sovereign, sacrificial, saving, and sustaining love of God. Therefore, as we come to these final verses in Rom 8 today, let us focus our attention on the greatness of God’s love for us.
