Matthew 22:1-22

After the parables, Israel’s religious leaders challenge Jesus once again. Various representative groups come to Jesus: Pharisees with Herodians, Sadducees, and Pharisees again, each raising a current issue in theology or ethics (22:15–40).[1] Jesus answers them, and then issues a challenge in response (22:41–46). Therefore, let’s begin with looking at the parable that begins the chapter, and then we’ll examine how Jesus responds to the religious leaders’ challenges. The whole chapter is a cycle of challenge and response.
