Jesus’ Faithfulness Overcomes Our Unfaithfulness, Part 2
As we examine the disciples’ actions today, we can identify with their unfaithfulness. We have all experienced seasons in which we were not spiritually watchful, and did not guard against temptation. We can call to mind seasons in which we gave in to temptation. But the purpose of this story is not to leave us defeated, as if there we was not hope for us, or simply resolving to do better and try harder the next time. The point of the story is to confront us with our unfaithfulness so that we will embrace Jesus’ faithfulness as the solution for our unfaithfulness. And as we embrace his faithfulness, so we can be transformed to greater degrees of faithfulness. So, let’s finish this passage today that encourage us to recognize our unfaithfulness, and to embrace Jesus’ faithfulness.
