Samuel: God Humbles, Exalts, and Assesses, Part 1
This sermon starts the survey of 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel. The theme of these books is that God is the one who sovereignly exalts his leaders and puts down those who exalt themselves. In the first three chapters of 1 Samuel, we see the circumstances of Samuel's birth, his dedication to God, the disobedience and judgement of Eli and his sons, and the calling and conversion of Samuel. The Lord was with Samuel and revealed himself to Samuel by his word. All Israel knew that Samuel was a prophet of the Lord.
