Today, we come to the next section of Mark 13. Jesus has warnings about a coming judgment on Jerusalem, a judgment that will be fulfilled in AD 70 when the Romans sack Jerusalem. He is instructing his disciples on how they can avoid this coming judgment by maintaining their faithfulness to him. He is instructing them as the angels did Lot and his wife. And in the section we are looking at today, he tells them when they should flee Jerusalem. Therefore, let’s continue our study of the passage by focusing on this one big idea: when judgment comes, do not cherish earthly possessions (vv. 14–23).
