The Promise That God Is with Us
Isaiah 7:1-17
This advent season, we will look at different passages from the book of Isaiah that build our anticipation of Christmas by focusing on the presence of our Lord, on God coming to his people to rescue them. One commentator sees in Isa 7–9 a focus on “Children [as the] Signs of God’s Presence.[1] “Such a theme is especially appropriate for the season of Christmas when we focus on the birth of Christ. Therefore, we’ll look today at this prophecy in Isa 7:14 of the birth of the son who will be “God with us.” Let’s begin the Advent season by focusing on the promise that God is with us.
