Passage: Romans 16:1-16

Romans 16:1-16

This list of names actually functions as a window into the work of the gospel. Just as we considered last week with Paul’s travel plans, so here we see that ordinary letter conventions can reflect a theological story that has relevance to our lives. In fact, the grammar Paul uses to connect today’s passage with last week’s may indicate that the people he greets are the kind of people who exhibit the characteristics desired in the previous section.[1] Therefore, let’s look at these greetings and see what a list of names tells us about the gospel.
