There are four miracle events in this passage. During or after all four of these miracles, Jesus either commands silence about himself or the event, or he conceals himself form the people. If Jesus is the sovereign king, then why doesn’t he want anyone to know about it? That’s the question we’ll try to answer as we make our way through this passage. And we’ll approach it from two angles:

1. The purpose of the signs: to demonstrate Jesus’ authority as king
2. The power of the signs: nothing can hide Jesus’ authority as king
