As we look at the third servant song, this song emphasizes more than any of the others how we should respond to the servant’s message. The opening verses address what the people of Israel have done to get themselves into the mess they’re in, highlighting their personal responsibility. The middle verses highlight what the Servant will do to rescue them from their predicament. And the final verses call Israel to respond properly to the servant’s work. Thus, there is both bad news and good news we need to hear, and we must make the right response to both. This passage, therefore, instructs us not to resist the bad news or the good news that God tells you.
