Jesus’ Conditions for Disciples

Speaker:
Passage: Luke 14:25-35
Service Type:

Luke 14:25-35

It is true that Jesus had come to establish God’s kingdom, but as he had already explained several times, that kingdom was going to begin very differently from people’s expectations. It would begin with apparent failure, with the shameful death of Jesus on the cross. And those who want to follow him, who want to participate in the life of his kingdom, need to be aware of what they must do in order to follow Jesus.[1] Therefore, let’s examine this passage this morning where Jesus presents his conditions for disciples.

[1] Green, Luke, NICNT, writes, “Often in the Lukan account, crowds are presented as pools of persons from whom Jesus might draw disciples, and this is clearly the case here.”
