In today’s passage, as soon as Jesus dies, Mark reports three features that vindicate Jesus: the tearing of the curtain in the temple, the centurion’s confession, and the presence of the women. Each event or detail leads us out of the valley of humiliation, and shows us that Jesus is dying in victory and not defeat. Of course, the ultimate vindication is coming in the resurrection, but Mark, knowing the end of the story, is already preparing us for that triumphant event.

Let us, therefore, look at the rest of this passage today, and see how Jesus is glorified when you believe in him.
