Paul Praises the God of All Comfort
2 Corinthians 1:3-7
In these opening verses, Paul introduces the key theme of “God’s redemption of suffering,”[1] how our suffering can result in good for ourselves and others. Paul doesn’t minimize our suffering (cf. 1:8), but he does show how the comfort God gives can benefit many people.
Recall the personal insults and conflict that have happened prior to this introduction.[2] However, Paul’s experience of suffering will allow him to form a better connection with the Corinthians (1:11), which is one of his goals in the letter.[3] So, what does Paul say in these verses about suffering and comfort?
