The King of Christmas
As we come to today’s passage, God asks us, Which king are you serving? To which kingdom do you belong? One the one hand, the passage presents to us a kingdom in rebellion, a kingdom in which there is no grace and mercy, and no purpose in suffering. On the other hand, there is the kingdom of God, where suffering leads to honor, where grace and mercy abound, and where we find acceptance in the family of God. And all of this is brought about because of the event we celebrate at Christmas: God the Son taking on human flesh, living among us, and dying in our place. This passage calls us to serve the king of Christmas, and gives us three reasons why.
