The passage we are considering this evening is perhaps the best-known Christmas passage in the Bible. It tells the simple story of the Savior’s humble birth in Bethlehem (2:1–7) and the announcement of Jesus’ birth to the shepherds in the field (2:8–14). In one sense, it’s a story that captures what the Bible is all about: the coming of Christ to save his people from their sins.
